The Network of Care - Janet Frazier

Janet Frazier was an ordinary mom living in the Bay Area as a marketing coordinator at Chevron. In December of 2000, her life changed when her two daughters Stephanie and Lindsay were in a serious car accident. Unfortunately Stephanie passed away and Lindsay was left seriously injured.

Janet skipped meals to stay by Lindsay's side for days on end. Once she did get up, she nearly fainted. Having noticed this, a nurse came by to check on her. She brought Janet something to eat, and in that moment, Janet could not have been more grateful for that sincere act of kindness. It was a small act but it radiated with hope and positive energy in the darkest of times for Janet.

From that moment, Janet decided she would do the same for others who were in those situations. She filled bags with 'snacks for patients and their families at a local hospital'. Other hospitals heard news of this idea and wanted the snack bags as well.  As NBC Bay Area News states, "It has blossomed into The Network Of Care, a non profit now working with 60 Bay Area hospitals and recently delivered their 200,000th snack bag."

This remarkable achievement was made possible with the help of many volunteers. Volunteers range from Janet's Chevron coworkers to a social worker at a children's hospital in the Bay Area.  What makes the bags even more special to Janet is that they are her daughter Stephanie's 'favorite color (purple) and are marked with a butterfly (also Stephanie's favorite)'.  Here at Stretch Is Comfort, we believe that love and compassion are the most important values in life. It's stories like these that inspire us to do good for others, and to be grateful for those who lend a helping hand when we are feeling down.
